Electronic Manufacturing and the IoT

Electronic Manufacturing and the IoT

More and more factories are becoming fully automated. When properly integrated with the IoT, automated factories are more effective, experience less downtime and cost less than traditional factories. One of the greatest benefits of full automation is that connected factories can be controlled from any location in the world. All that is needed is an Internet connection.

Fully automated factories rarely require major reconfiguration or set-up changes. This is very different than how Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) works. In order to remain competitive in the electronics industry, EMS companies must produce a large mix of products, each generally in small amounts. Producing these products is an extremely complex process.

EMS Data Collection

Electronics manufacturers must be able to focus on both the big picture as well as production and machine-level details. Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible for EMS companies to accomplish with the massive amounts of data they collect. Often times, electronics manufacturers must rely on outdated data or simply don’t know how to learn from the data they’ve collected. This is due to the fact that there is no standard way to collect data from machines.

Each machine on the shop floor collects data that must be sorted, analyzed and compared to other reports. The analytics exist but the information is scattered. Visualization is difficult as well. KPIs are generally focused on what happened yesterday. In order to avoid downtime, you must be able to predict what might happen today.

It’s extremely important for electronics manufacturers to see exactly what’s going on while also seeing multiple steps ahead. This is the only way to accurately predict and resolve issues before they are able to slow or halt production. Real-time views and alerts provide the most effective solution.

IoT Integration

Mint Controls takes the guesswork out of production. Our IoT solution enables all systems to communicate with each other. Our system provides easy to understand, real-time data. This allows electronics manufacturers to take a proactive approach to issues on the factory floor. Our cost-effective solution provides seamless IoT integration with inexpensive Raspberry Pi devices.
