Litter presents a major problem for cities. In addition to causing an unsightly mess, litter can attract rodents and other pests and make its way into storm drains, polluting oceans, lakes, and rivers. It’s crucial that those responsible for keeping cities clean focus on reducing the amount of litter in public spaces.
Lack of available waste bins is one of the main reasons people litter. It’s important that cities provide plenty of waste bins for people to use. However, proper waste management is equally important.
Fill Level Monitoring
While most leaders understand the importance of keeping waste bins from overflowing, many find it difficult to determine when bins require attention. This is even more complicated during major events or times when people visit certain areas of the city more frequently. Even with regular scheduled deployment of waste management teams, overflowing can and does occur. It’s also common that waste management teams spend a considerable amount of time emptying empty bins. This can cost cities a lot of money over time.
Using Mint Controls’ Smart Bins and Fill Sensors, cities can efficiently monitor waste levels in all bins across the city. The Fill Sensor attaches easily to any bin and continuously monitors fill level, temperature, and tilt. In addition to providing clear data about which bins require attention, the Fill Sensor also provides data that can be used to detect potential trash fires and bins tipped over.
The Fill Sensor collects and transmits data at regular intervals throughout the day to Mint Controls’ Software. All data is fully analyzed to locate patterns and changes. This helps the system effectively detect a variety of problems. When necessary, the system sends automatic alerts to waste management teams via text message and/or email. Users can view alerts, fill level, GPS location, temperature, and tilt of all bins on the user-friendly platform.
