Combining IoT Control Systems With Robotics to Increase Reliability, Resources and Repeatability

Robots are used in a number of industries for a wide variety of applications. In fact, robots are one of the biggest factors currently changing the industrial landscape. Everyday, more and more companies adopt robotics for use in their operations.

Robotics is used in a variety of industries including semiconductor and electronics, food and consumer goods, plastics and rubber as well as the automotive industry. Robots are commonly used to help increase productivity and reduce downtime in the workplace.

Combining IoT With Robotics

New generation robots use wireless networking, machine learning, open source and the Internet of Things to improve how they perform their tasks.

The combination of an IoT Control System and robotics can significantly increase reliability, resources and repeatability. The IoT makes it possible for robots to capture operational data from multiple sources, in real time. This data can be analyzed and acted upon to optimize the manufacturing process and reduce downtime on the factory floor.

IoT technology allows robots to access back-end data and compute services in the cloud. They are also able to access sensors in their working environment and communicate with other robotic systems.

IoT enabled devices are able to share embedded local data with robotic systems. This data combines with the data collected through the robot’s sensors to enable the robot to make decisions and act accordingly. Both commercial and consumer robotics can benefit from these capabilities.

In addition to factory floor robots, the IoT is creating autonomous control loops where components that aren’t considered traditional robots are automated, delivering close-loop intelligence on the floor through a connection to the internet.

The Future of Robotics

While the Internet of Robotic Things is still in its infancy, it’s growing at an alarming rate. There are many industries that are looking towards the future of robotics and the many benefits it has to offer.
