Tracking Wine

July 19, 2019 By Carol Scheafer

Restaurants and hospitality businesses spend a lot of money on wine and other alcoholic beverage products. These businesses may keep several bottles and cases costing up to thousands of dollars per bottle. Unfortunately, many of these businesses do not have a way to accurately track their inventory. When expensive bottles go missing, they might not find out until months or even years after the loss occurred. This makes it virtually impossible to figure out what happened and locate the responsible party. It’s even less likely that the bottle will ever be recovered.

It’s important that businesses that offer wine for sale have a reliable inventory tracking system in place. This system should track all bottles and cases from the moment they are received until they leave the facility.

RFID Inventory Management System

Mint Controls’ inventory tracking solution uses inexpensive RFID tags to track inventory and employees as they move around the facility. The system provides inventory counts up to the minute. If wine bottles go missing, the system records the exact time and which employee was responsible. This increases accountability and reduces the chance of loss.

How it Works

Staff prints and applies RFID labels or cap tags to each case and/or bottle at the time of receiving. These labels contain specific information about each bottle including vendor and storage location within the facility. Staff receive identification badges containing RFID tags. These tags contain information about the employee including name and role within the company. RFID readers are installed throughout the facility, including all exits and entrances of storage areas.

The system automatically tracks the movement of wine and liquor from one location to the next. It automatically tracks information about each employee connected to the move. All information collected by the RFID readers is viewable on the software provided by Mint Controls. This software shows the exact location, movement, and sales of bottles, cases, and individual glasses of wine.

Mint Controls’ RFID inventory tracking solution provides comprehensive and effective tracking of all wine and liquor bottles in restaurants, hotels, bars, cruise ships, and other hospitality businesses.
