Streamlining the Consignment Inventory Process

October 12, 2018 By mcadmin

Once consignment inventory leaves the distributor’s facility, it can be extremely difficult to track. Pieces often go missing, and invoicing doesn’t always take place. This results in significant loss for both the manufacturer and
distributor. It also puts the medical facility and patients at risk. If dangerous narcotics are taken, it poses a serious liability risk. Also, without proper inventory tracking, medical facilities can easily run out of potentially life-saving products. It’s crucial that distributors do all they can to track and monitor consignment inventory.

RFID Tracks Medical Products at the Medical Facility

RFID provides a reliable tracking solution for consignment inventory. RFID readers track individual items while in storage and once they arrive at the medical facility. This process is completely automatic, eliminating the chance of human error and ensuring that consignment inventory never goes missing.

Upon being received by the distributor, RFID labels are applied to each individual item. These labels are encoded with information specific to each product. RFID labels are small and barely noticeable. Once applied, they are not removed. Consignment inventory is then transferred to various medical facilities and hospitals.

Mint Controls will retrofit a special area within the medical facility to enable automatic tracking of consignment inventory. RFID readers are installed as well as access controls and cameras to monitor activities.

The system automatically tracks when items are placed in the area, or removed. The amount of inventory is tracked and new products are automatically ordered when stocks run low. When items are removed from the consignment inventory area at the medical facility, they are added to a list of products in the distributor’s database. The medical facility is automatically invoiced for these items on a monthly or weekly basis.

Surveillance Cameras and Access Controls Prevent Loss and Theft

Access controls and cameras ensure that unauthorized individuals do not have access to medical products. Authorized individuals are supplied with an RFID enabled card. This card is required to access medical products. This reduces loss, prevents theft, and eliminates the chance of injury or lawsuits caused by improper use of medical products.

Mint Controls’ consignment inventory solution streamlines the consignment inventory process, ensures that medical facilities have the products they need, when they need them, and that the distributor gets compensated for all products used.
